Salt getting good review buzz

Posted by onthego On July - 17 - 2010

Angelina Jolie is getting some good reviews in Salt. People are again saying that she can really play an action star. Action sequences, disguises and a variety of weapons, Jolie handles them all with ease. She is a solid action movie star, good for her.

Despicable Me – good word of mouth so far!

Posted by onthego On July - 10 - 2010

The story is of a bad guy trying to steal the moon but gets involved in taking care of three orphan girls. They of course turn him into a nice guy and the story goes on from. Early word of mouth is pretty good and eonline gave it a B+. Good to hear for Steve Carrell.

Last Airbender getting poor reviews

Posted by onthego On July - 2 - 2010

M.Knight commented on some of the poor reviews Last Airbender is receiving. The special effects and epic story look pretty good from the trailers. Those who have seen it say it is bad and 3d images are not that good.

Film Hollywood Whitewashing

A clip from A O Scott of The New York Times:

I have to ask you, how does it feel to wake up to see the reviews, especially given that you put in so much effort and hard work making the film?

You know what I don’t know what the disconnect is. I just don’t get [he paused, sounding angry and frustrated]. I don’t get it. I’m speaking a different language I guess. That’s all I can think of. Because I definitely approach filmmaking with great respect, integrity and effort and take into account advice of all my peers. We collectively come to a place where we are ecstatic about the particular stories we are telling.

Yesterday I was doing interviews and I had 20 reporters tell me that The Village (2004) is one of their favourite movies of all times. That’s not what they said when it came out [he laughed somewhat sarcastically]. When it came out it was the worst movie of the year. For me it was my favourite movie I had made on all levels.

I feel this about my movies, the fact that my name is on them, that means they are doomed.

It also was not difficult to find a positive review of the movie either.  Get out there and see it for yourself!

Jonah Hex – getting some horrible reviews

Posted by onthego On June - 27 - 2010

You hear about movies getting bad reviews, maybe that Megan Fox cannot act that well. Boy, are people writing some bad reviews of Jonah Hex. I haven’t seen reviews this bad since Glitter. From examiner.com

There’s a reason this thing still hasn’t earned $10 million. The poster on the above right shows you how you can expect to spend the 70-odd minutes that make up Jonah Hex. Upon hearing that, you might try and bullsh-t yourself into thinking that a movie that’s barely an hour and ten minutes long couldn’t possibly be all that bad, but you’d be beyond mistaken: those 70 minutes felt like an eternity. I’ve never had a colonoscopy, but I’d imagine that it would seem to last less time than the showing of Jonah Hex that had its way with me this evening. This is certainly the winner of the title “Best Worst Movie” of the summer, but it’s not good in a bad way. Rather, it’s bad in a painful, shameful way.

Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups

Posted by onthego On June - 25 - 2010

Seems this movie isn’t getting good reviews. Too much work at the jokes and they are not that funny. Sandler humor usually works well, but at a 12 yr old level. We will see how word of mouth treats it with the summertime teen crowd.

Toy Story 3 opens!

Posted by onthego On June - 18 - 2010

large.toy.story
Toy Story 3 opens today and is getting some buzz about being one of the best hits of this summary.  Per cnn’s kids review:

In “Toy Story 3″, Woody and Buzz (voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, as always) remain unchanged, as good as new in fact, but their owner, Andy, is 17 now and moving on to college. His mom wants his room cleared, and a misunderstanding consigns the toys to Sunnyside Daycare.

Initially the idea of all-day play seems too good to be true, but Sunnyside has a dark side: it’s “a place of ruin and despair”, a pre-kindie pastel-colored gulag presided over by Lotso (Ned Beatty), an avuncular pink teddy bear who smells of strawberries (so we’re told, the movie is discreetly 3D but not in smell-o-vision).
